by hour. we will be discussing this new information later in this hour with john bolton a former u.s. ambassador to the united nations. >> heather: lights are coming on for some in new york city while others are learning it could be weeks before their power is restored. mayor mike bloomberg on the latest recovery efforts and help cannot come soon enough for those living in hard hit areas of staten island. david lee miller is standing by with the very latest. >> reporter: let's start with conflicting information. there are reports at this hour that authorities have stopped the free distribution of free gasoline, gasoline from the department of defense that had been delivered to various parts of new york city by using tanker trucks and first responders were eligible to get that gas. i can tell you that here on staten island there is such a tanker truck and gasoline is being distributed to the general public as well as a separate line for first responders. at least here in staten island, free gasoline is available to the general public. authorities say they have at least 36 hour suppl
. john bolton and jack keen. gentlemen, thank you both very much for being here this evening. general, let me start with you in this tragic and surprising news about general petraeus and his abrupt resignation. what is your sense of the implications for the nation and the really tragic end to what has been a stellar military career? >> just let me say on a personal note, liz, i know dave petraeus very well and his family. it is such a sense of loss and sympathy for the amount of pain that they are in. i love this family and him as well. it's a personal loss for me. but it's also a loss for the country. this is the most accomplished general officer in generation, comparable to the legends of world war ii. he didn't fight a war as big as they did. but we were definitely losing -- most people don't understand how tremendous it was that he began to turn the war around in afghanistan as well. no general officer has been offered two wars to turn around except macarthur, and he failed miserably in the second one. he is a consummate public servant. i have to believe that america has not heard

on september 28. the claim has not been verified. john bolton is here. good evening, sir. >> good evening. >> greta: first, your overall thought about what transpired on capitol hill, in terms of the release behind closed doors today? >> well, i think the most interesting testimony that has leaked out -- do i have faith the rest of it will leak out in due course, is that the director of national intelligence and the acting cia director would not say where the talking points that susan rice used on those famous five sunday shows came from. so the notion that somehow or another, this was all supplied to her by the intelligence community, i think is now in question. the real is did the white house write the talking points to suit their ideology, to suit their political imperatives, where did all of that come from? and that, i think, is going to be the focus of a lot of the inquiry with director petraeus tomorrow. >> greta: one of the things that is curious to me, and i am total oat outside, but having tried cases. have you to keep secret. some things on capitol hill have to be secret because
those same questions. we'll see how far that goes and how far up it goes. john bolton always good to talk to you. bill: who is jill kelly. this is what we know. 37 years old there from a lebanese family immigrated in president late 70s. her and her husband, a well-known surgeon moved to "tampa two" years ago. she works as an unpaid socially aeu son at an air force base in tam path. the two have hosted gatherings for military officers, some bases in the area and apparently they have been friends with general petraeus and his wife holly for five years. she told a friend that she started receiving harassing emails from paula broadwell this past may. and that's when we are told the f.b.i. started its own investigation. martha: she had no idea that this would lead back to petraeus and what would happen to him. president obama is beginning the new push of his plan to hike taxes on the wealthy in talks this week with business leaders. several ceo's will meet with the president at the white house. many of part of fix the debt campaign with deep washington ties. labor leaders will meet wi
. i'm joined by john bolton. former ambassador to the u.n. and a fox news contributor. what do you think about that. >> when i first heard that story i thought i must be reading something from the onion, or mad magazine, and to be honest i still don't believe it. i don't believe even the obama administration would send valerie jarrett to negotiate with the iranians. not that i put it past them, i just find it very hard to believe. martha: apparently she was born in iran to american parents, her father worked in a hospital there. could that be a reason to, you know, sort of think that she might be a person that would be able to sort of bridge a relationship there, or at least in a very initial kind of informal way start to have some discussions or make arrangements for further, higher level discussions? >> well, my understanding is she left when she was five. unless she is a very precocious lady i don't think her experiences between age zero and age five qualify her to negotiate with the iranians. moreover, it is presidential malpractice to put what by all accounts is one of the pre
kirsten, judy, what if george w. bush had told the press corps to stop picking on john bolton, his ambassador to the united nations? [laughter] >> right. discrimination against men with moustaches. [laughter] it is so absurd, and the president gets away with it, frankly, because we let him get away with it. there was ed henry of fox news, a couple other people trying to ask some hard questions, but he just swept them aside, and that format is death for getting to the bottom of an affair. that's why we really do need to know in detail, either a select committee or some other venue, what the administration has said about what happened in benghazi that night, whether or not they were attempting to mislead the american people about what happened to make their re-election more likely. i mean, these are questions that are not going to go away even though the administration would like them to go away. jon: yeah. because if susan rice wasn't connected at all to the benghazi incident, why did they put her on the sunday morning shows? >> right. that's an obvious question. [laughter] it's suc
